Color Blind, a new athletic clothing line that celebrates diversity, made its first appearance in New York Fashion Week this year. The line’s name “Color Blind,” is intended to suggest that people should be blind to skin color as well as appearances. The two founders, Chris Brickley and Jason Boone, said they themselves have dealt with discrimination, which inspired them to start an athletic and comfortable clothing line that represented all people.

Brickley, who is rated one of the top NBA trainers, says he combined his love for basketball with his passion for equality. “I really just love my job as a basketball trainer,” he said. “I was sitting there one day listening to all the stories my clients had on racial profiling and all the things they had to deal with growing up, and I was like, you know what, I want to make a clothing brand that can go viral and break this inequality.”

The event, held at the Sky building in Midtown Manhattan, showcased inventive merchandise. One collection is called Appreciate Diversity, where the branding is a face that is put together with different skin tones. This collection was designed to show diversity and that it is okay for humans to all come together as one, according to the founders. Another symbol is that of an “X.”  There is also a collection of plain T-shirts and jackets with “Color Blind” on the back.

NBA players such as Iman Shumpert, Carmelo Anthony, and D’Angelo Russell showed up to support the brand.

Brickley hopes to use his platform on social media – he has over 300,000 Instagram followers — as well as his renown for being an NBA trainer, to make a clothing line that incorporated athleticism as well as street fashion. “It’s really all about the meaning behind this brand,” he said. “Yes, I have my NBA guys wearing it and helping it reach to its potential, but I also think they genuinely see the idea. They see how this clothing brand can reach millennials and hopefully be worn by every athlete as well as people who are just intrigued by a sort-of street style fashion sense.”
