Spring has finally arrived and what better way to welcome the new season than by escaping into a magical world of enchanted gardens and make believe. Macy’s Flower Show presents Once Upon a Springtime, a floral spectacular taking place in Chicago, San Francisco and Herald Square in New York City.
Beginning March 25th through April 8th, Macy’s Flower show celebrates more than 70 years of intriguing and lavish gardens, different landscapes and flowers from around the globe. Once Upon a Springtime incorporates flowers with fairy tale elements: evil queens and floral breathing dragons.
“I like walking through the different entrance and seeing the different flowers, flowers I’ve never seen before,” said Lydia Lu, a student at NYU.
Once Upon a Springtime is an event for all ages. Many families bring their young ones to allow the kids to interact with nature. The exhibit includes Spring’s Castle Garden, The Knight Quarters, The Enchanted Forest, The Lagoon, and The Snow Queen’s Winter Castle.
Martha Pastor says she brings her kids every year because it shows them that they should take care of nature and projects that are done in the community.

“I didn’t know what to expect, but when I got here I was really pleasantly surprised by the flowers and the art work,” said Quran Hall. “They really went all out for this. I brought my child because I thought it’d be a great experience for her, something different from what we usually do. She’s definitely enjoying it… she’s still having fun.”
Visitors can create flower headresses at the Flower Crown Seminar. This seminar, hosted by Rachel Chop, allows visitors to incorporate flowers into intricate designs.
“It was really good workshop, good directions from the teacher that we had,” said Tina Manning, a visitor from the UK. “You can put any combination you want. I did a central piece and a strip band, but then there is like a woodland theme as well where you can put more greenery.”
The show incorporates live music, DJ BlazeNYC, speakers, and seminars.
“The event is really pretty, it’s really interesting,” said Yancy Torres. “It’s my first time I’ve come here, I thought it was gonna be outside but it’s really nice. I brought my son.”
