Urban Male Leadership Program at Lehman College

Bronx Institute Class of Summer 2011

As part of a partnership with the Bronx Institute Summer Gear Up Program and the Lehman College Department of Journalism, Communication and Theater, high school students from around the bronx participate in an annual journalism workshop.

They learn everything from working behind the cameras, to creating own their personal websites.

But, we also like to find out about the issues that concern them, such as cyber bullying, teenage pregnancy, sexting, internet smut pages, gangs and many others.

Launch of the Bronx Journal Website

The Bronx Journal is not just the name of this show. It is now a multimedia website featuring the best works by lehman college journalism and communication students. It was launched just this month, and it features articles, opinion columns, photo slide shows, audio podcasts and videos from this program. Professors Elaine Rivera and Christine McKenna discuss how the website will take students into the new age of journalism.

Sustainable South Bronx

Sustainable south bronx is an organization committed to change not only that but the quality of life for all bronx residents. Guest host, Gabriel Contreras sat down with Executive Director, Miquela Craytor on the mission of the non profit organization.

Anthropology and the Museum at Lehman College

Anthropology and the Museum, a class here at Lehman college, explores the relevance of museums and exhibits within our society, emphasizing on their anthropological context. Students learn about how the representations of the human and natural world have changed in response to different socio-cultural and political climates. Lehman College Environmental Club

The Lehman College Environmental Club engages students in environmental issues through participation in workshops, discussions and events. They expose and educate the college community here to the ideas of growing your own food and composting. Also to promote sustainable practices on campus and lessen the negative impact on the environment. President Victoria Namanworth spoke more on the goals of the club

The Point Community Development Corporation

The Point CDC is a non profit community organization dedicated to the advancement of the youth of the Bronx and the revitilization of the Hunts Point section of the Bronx. Youth Program Director, Earl Skinner stops by and discusses this organization and what it has and will continue to do to help the youth of the Bronx.
