Lincoln Center in the Bronx

Lincoln Center is coming to the Bronx. The performing arts center is collaborating with the Casita Maria Center for Art and Education to bring several workshops and performances to the borough. The program aims to increase family engagement in the arts and will run from March to June 2015 at 928 Simpson Street in the Bronx.

During this period, workshops and performances will be held every Saturday at Casita Maria, including free programs for youth and families of the Bronx. “We have a lot of admiration for what Casita Maria does in the South Bronx, and we have found in them our Bronx cultural partner,” said Nancy Kleaver, director of community family programs at Lincoln Center.

On April 18, the Chamber Music Society presented Chamber Music Beginnings, a series of concerts which aims to teach children grades 3 to 5 the basic elements of music.

The Spanish Society of Lincoln Center is also presenting a series of films and is also providing bilingual leaders to assist the Spanish community with the Salsa workshops.

Thus far attendance has been good and the series will be back next year, said Kleaver. “Our purpose have been fulfilled during this period. We had had hundreds of people coming every week. Therefore, we will expand the program to other art centers such as The Point and Bronx Art Space.”
