Harlem Meer Construction

In 2019 the Central Park Conservancy received $150 million for the transformation of the Lasker Rink and Pool site on the Harlem Meer, a body of body in park’s northeast corner. Early development began in 2021. The Harlem Meer will provide access across the north end of the park by reconnecting the water without touching the pool.

However, years of construction has left residents in the area questioning how long the renovation will take. The construction interrupted joggers who ran daily through the park. Not only that, but many of the pathways are also closed off because of the construction and workers’ cars parked nearby make it harder for locals to find a spot.

In front of Central Park North, you can see the construction and the path blocked off.

This is the sign when you walk in detailing the construction and company information. It blocks off an entire path for joggers and riders.

On the other side there is construction still occurring. On the little island, there is usually a crane.

Here is where the new pool and ice rank will be located. That is also where the boardwalk will be.

An old woman had to turn back because the path was yet again blocked off and she had to walk a longer distance.

Bikers and joggers use a very narrow path without collision. Some even go the opposite direction. It’s very hard to see ahead because of the fence blocking the view.
