Lehman College Athletics unveiled its brand new, state-of-the-art scoreboard that will surely change the way the school promotes its 17 varsity teams.  Measuring an impressive 20-by-13 feet, the colossal animated scoreboard is fully high definition and includes a 100 percent digital display that is capable of displaying an amazing variety of in-game graphics as well as message announcements.

Now, player photos, in-game statistics and big game moment graphics are readily available.  Imagine seeing that winning play on the big screen as part of the game presentation.

Even utilizing this scoreboard at its most basic functions, such as simply showing score and time, proved to be a hit during a recent men’s soccer game versus John Jay College,

“The addition of our new scoreboard will be great for Lehman students and its teams,” said Lehman athletic director, Dr. Martin L. Zwiren. “We are constantly looking for ways to improve the experience for the Lehman teams and student body, and this is just another example of how much we value the contributions, hard work and sacrifice of our athletes and coaches.”

Make sure to get yourself out to the South Field not only to check out the new campus addition, but to see some great Lehman Athletics as well.  Now, back to this week’s highlights of Lehman Lighting Athletics.

Men’s Soccer

In addition to the debut of the scoreboard, the men’s soccer team added to a great night for Lehman Athletics when it defeated John Jay 2-1 on September 26.  A tense game for much of the night after goals by Lehman’s Carlos Ribeiro and John Jay’s Christian Munoz, the Lightning eventually prevailed on junior Thaddeus Ikwuka’s game-winner in the 84th minute.

The Lightning followed up Monday’s win with its third consecutive victory on Wednesday afternoon when it handled the College of Staten Island 1-0 on the Dolphins’ home turf.  The win moved Lehman to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Another crucial conference match is on tap for this Saturday when Lehman hosts Brooklyn College at 1 p.m. on the South Field.  A trip to Queens to face York College follows on October 5.

Women’s Volleyball

Not to be lost amidst the excitement surrounding the recent success of men’s soccer, the women’s volleyball team has been on a roll itself.  On September 27 the team captured its third straight win when it defeated Medgar Evers College 3-0 behind good games from Gerri-Ann Martin, Jennifer Winkler, Shari Quiles and Andrea Vasquez.  Despite its 4-6 overall record, the Lightning boasts a 3-1 record in CUNYAC as it prepares for four straight non-conference matches over the next week.
