Yes, It’s official…Lehman Lightning’s streak continues.

Lehman College’s men’s soccer team will be the top dog, No. 1 seed, best of the best, whatever you want to call it, when the City University of New York Athletic Conference Championships begin on October 26th thanks to its recent win over Hunter College and some interconference fighting that knocked City College of New York down a few notches in the standings.

For good measure, the Lightning ended its conference schedule this past Saturday with a thrilling 1-0 win in double overtime against CCNY. Forward Oumar Niang, a consistent goal-scoring presence for the club throughout the season, notched the game-winner with his 11th goal of the season in the 108th minute. The win capped a 7-1 season for the Lightning within the conference, its best record since the club was reinstated as a varsity program just three short years ago.

Only one game remain on the Lightning’s regular season schedule –a home match against Berkeley College on October 19th. After that, a week off will ensue before the Lightning opens the CUNYAC Championships with a home match against No. 8 seeded Medgar Evers. Lehman fans, the team is hoping for a boisterous home crowd to be in attendance. Don’t let them down.

Women’s volleyball action continues this week with an eye towards the CUNYAC Championships in two weeks. However, before that, the Lehman Athletics Department will honor 3 special players prior to the home match on October 18th –Seniors Gerri-Ann Martin, Jennifer Winkler, as well as Jasmine Bermudez.

Those who have been to the APEX sports facility over the last several seasons know the outstanding talents that both Martin and Winkler have brought to the court for each and every game, while Bermudez has quickly turned Lightning fans into believers during her short stay in the Bronx with her superior skills as a setter.

Nothing would be better than to have their fellow classmates come out to support and show appreciation for all the hard work and dedication they have shown to the program.

And remember Lehman fans, don’t forget to stay up to date with all things Lightning by logging on to the official website for Lehman Athletics, lehmanathletics.com, or by liking Lehman Athletics on Facebook.
