New Yorkers on Food

New Yorkers love food. Eating offers a respite from the stressful day-to-day struggle to make a living and to make one’s way through this tough town. Eating means pleasure, sharing and family.

There are 23,500 restaurants in New York City and residents often eat out as much as they cook in. But do New Yorkers know what is really on their plates? Or, in many cases, on their plastic trays? Several eye-opening documentaries, such as Super Size Me (2004) and Eating Animals (2010) are increasing awareness, but not everyone knows or cares about what’s really on their table. We asked Bronx students to tell us about their relationship food.
